Undoubtedly one of my favourite modules this year was architecture. Sadly, it only lasted for six weeks. We learnt all about what is required when designing different types of buildings e.g. houses, skyscrapers, tunnels and bridges. We watched a documentary on how Sydney has been hugely developed over the years and the impact architecture has had on important city structures there. One of the most impressive buildings which featured hugely in the videos was the Sydney Opera House which I believe to be one of the most beautifully designed buildings in the world.
We were put into teams of two or more people and asked to complete a project by the end of the module on anything to do with architecture. The project had to have a computer designed sketch and a 3D model. My partner was Jay and with his help, we decided to replicate a very modern building we had designed during the module. We used styrofoam card and coloured paper to create our modern house. It took us about four hours but the end result was worth all the effort.
The module was great fun. Not only did I get to learn the basics of architecture but I also got to create and build a full scale model of a house which I had never done before.
