From the 19th to the 23rd of October, I participated in my first week of work experience in Sherry FitzGerald, Ballsbridge. The program was aimed especially at TY students and had over 50 students from 26 different schools. It has a great reputation among teachers, parents and pupils that have done it before for being an excellent and very interactive week.
The day began at 10 in the morning and finished at 3 in the afternoon. I took the bus into town and back home every day with Ethan and Tom which is not something I do very often. It is safe to say that we showed our inexperience at getting on buses as we missed four of them in one afternoon. Throughout the week we were put into groups and given speeches by different people that were involved in different parts of the company. I was bewildered at how many different types of jobs were actually involved in Sherry FitzGerald. It’s not just people selling houses, for example it has a financial side, a commercial side…
As well as learning about a profession I didn't know much about, meeting new people and doing a lot of group work, we even got to go out to a Sherry FitzGerald branch in Dublin in pairs. Well mine wasn't in Dublin but Greystones is close enough. It was the companies newest branch which was really nice and I got to go with someone I knew, Faye. The people in the Greystones’s branch were really very helpful and friendly. During my time at the branch we went to a house that was for sale and we were thought how to draw it’s plan. It was quite difficult and mine was awful.. Overall it was a great day.
The week itself was brilliant and very enjoyable. We even had to sing a song in our groups on our last day which with my singing voice was quite embarrassing. I would definitely recommend it to anyone considering doing it.
