Last week from Monday the 30th of November to Friday the 4th of December, I completed my second week of work experience in an insurance firm called XS Direct in town. I started at 9:30 and finished at 5 every day which is slightly different to the usual school day.
At the start of the week, I was helping with the terms of business agreement (TOBA) for each individual broker that the company hires to sell their insurance. XS Direct is an insurance company which has most of it’s customers in the UK with only 5’000 clients in Ireland however their main offices are in Dublin.
On Wednesday I helped open a current account for a new section of the business in Bank of Ireland which required a lot signatures and visits to the bank’s branch in St Stephen’s Green. It was something I had never done before and I never realised how long it took to complete the whole procedure. During the last two days I went over to the second office to help the claims department. It was there that I learnt the most about insurance and it’s different sections. I must have sent out at least 60 cheques to various customers and opened around 40 letters that needed to be emailed and distributed out. I now understand why the working hours are so long.
It was an extremely enjoyable and intriguing week. Not only did I get to learn all about XS Direct and insurance but I also finished my second work placement in a company.
